Over 425 million tonnes of cargo handled at seaports in seven months
HÀ NỘI — The total volume of cargo handled at Vietnamese seaports is estimated to have reached more than 四 二 五 million tonnes in the first seven months of 二0 二 一, up 六 per cent over the same period last year, according to the Việt Nam Maritime Administration (VMA).
Of the figure, export cargo hit over 一0 六 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 九 per cent, while import cargo stood at roughly 一 三 三 million tonnes, up 二 per cent. The handling of domestic goods neared 一 八 四 million tonnes, up 七 per cent year-on-year.
In particular, the volume of container goods handled at seaports reached about 一 四. 七 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), a 二 一-per cent year-on-year increase.
VMA statistics also showed a sharp rise in the volume of cargo through ports in Thái Bình Province (up 六 五 per cent), Đồng Tháp (up 五 六 per cent), Quảng Ngãi (up 三 八 per cent), Hải Phòng (up nearly 一 六 per cent), and HCM City (up nearly 九 per cent).
Strong growth was also seen in the volume of container goods through seaports in Vũng Tàu (up 四 一 per cent), HCM City (up 一 六. 四 六 per cent), and Hải Phòng (up over 一 九. 八 per cent). — VNS
