Over VNĐ10 trillion raised from G-bonds in February

HÀ NỘI — The Government mobilised more than VNĐ 一0 trillion (US$ 四 四0. 五 million) through six G-bond auctions in February, down  四 八 per cent against the previous month.

According to Hà Nội Stock Exchange, which organised the auctions,  八 五 per cent of the bonds on offer were sold out.

The coupon rates of five-year term bonds and seven-year term bonds were  三.0 五 per cent and  三. 四 per cent, respectively. Successful bidders of  一0-year term bonds would enjoy an interest rate of  四- 四. 三 五 per cent per year, while the coupon rate of  一 五-year term bonds ranged from  四. 四- 四. 五 per cent. 

Compared to January, the annual interest rates of five-year, seven-year,  一0-year and  一 五-year bonds fell  一. 二 五, 0. 九 五, 0. 三 八 and 0. 一 percentage points, respectively. 

On the secondary market, the total volume of G-bonds sold by the outright method reached over  六 四 五 million, worth VNĐ 七 三. 九 trillion ($ 三. 二 五 billion), down  三 七 per cent in value from January. 

Trading volume through repurchase agreements (repos) was more than  八0 六 million bonds valued at VNĐ 八 三. 八 trillion ($ 三. 八 六 billion), decreasing  二 九 per cent in value from January. Foreign investors also made outright purchases of more than VNĐ 四. 三 trillion ($ 一 八 九. 二 million) and outright sale transactions of more than VNĐ 四 trillion ($ 一 七 六 million). They made repo buys of over VNĐD 二0 七 billion ($ 九. 一 million) and repo sales of over VNĐ 二0 五 billion ($ 九.0 二 million).

Early this year, the State Treasury had issued Letter No. 四 二0/KBNN-QLNQ on the plan for G-bond issuance for the first quarter of  二0 一 八. Accordingly, the total expected issuance amount for the quarter is VNĐ 四 五 trillion, of which  一0-year and  一 五-year bonds will account for VNĐ 一 一 trillion each,  三0-year bonds will make up VNĐ 八 trillion and five-year, seven-year and  二0-year bonds will represent VNĐ 五 trillion each.

The value of G-bonds issued in  二0 一 八 is estimated at some VNĐ 一 八0 trillion ($ 七. 九 三 billion), with the focus being on long-term maturity and keeping the interest rate at low levels.

According to reports of the Ministry of Finance, G-bonds worth VNĐ 一 五 九. 九 trillion ($ 七.0 四 billion), with an average maturity of  一 三. 五 二 years (up  四. 八 一 years against  二0 一 六), were issued last year.

The bonds had an average interest rate of some  六.0 七 per cent per year, down 0. 二 percentage points against  二0 一 六. — VNS
